Media Center Press Releases More Than 50 Chicago African-American Area Ministers Call For Fair Transit Funding
Prayer breakfast and letters to legislators support capital funding effort

EVENT:     More than 50 Chicago area African-American ministers will gather to show their support for mass transit funding in northeastern Illinois.   Reverend Dr. Walter B. Johnson, Jr. of Greater Institutional AME Church and Reverend Roosevelt Watkins of Pastors United for Change will lead the “Faith Alliance for Fair Transit Funding” event, appealing to legislators representing their communities and congregations.

The Regional Transportation Authority, Chicago Transit Authority, Metra and Pace have identified a $10 billion state capital investment need over five years.  Without adequate funding, critical repairs and expansion projects, such as the Red Line extension and other initiatives, will be put on hold indefinitely.
